When the Bundle Ends, Montana Still Has No Forms to Mail

What Changes on the Day It Ends

A three-month window and a twelve-month window end in different quarters, and yours is set by whichever package you happened to purchase and the day your formation was filed. We are not going to make any claim about how or whether you get reminded, because we have no way to verify that. What we can say is that the date exists, it is specific to you, and keeping track of it is your job rather than anybody else's.

Montana Retired Its Paper in 2017

This matters more here than in most states, and it is the thing national help articles get wrong about Montana constantly.

There are no forms. Not obscure forms, not hard-to-locate forms. None. Montana stopped accepting paper business filings in 2017 and pushed everything onto one website, biz.sosmt.gov, entered with an ePass Montana account. Because nothing is printed, nothing is numbered, so any instruction telling you to mail Montana form such-and-such with a check attached was written for a filing system this state shut down years ago.

What Montana does insist on is the address. Under Mont. Code Ann. § 35-7-104, any filing naming an agent must give a real Montana street address, or a rural route box number, and nothing less. A post office box standing on its own does not satisfy it. That single requirement is the entire product any registered agent is selling you, whether the invoice says $99 or $149.

The consequence of a free exit is worth stating plainly, because it changes how you should treat that expiry date. Nothing about moving early costs more than moving late. The end of your bundled months is not a trap to escape ahead of a penalty; it is simply the day a $149 charge would begin, and you get to decide in advance whether that is a number you want on the books.
