Montana Publishes Its Prices Four Years Ahead. Inc Authority Publishes One.

Registered Agent MT.org sells the service this page argues for, at $99 a year, so weigh it accordingly. On a page whose entire subject is a price nobody has published, though, one discipline holds without exception here: no figure gets invented on Inc Authority's behalf. Where they have printed nothing, this page prints nothing.

The Free Year Is Not the Problem

Formation packages from Inc Authority include twelve months of agent coverage at no charge. There is no asterisk we can point at, and we looked for one. For a company in its opening year, when every outgoing dollar gets noticed, that is a real benefit, and it belongs at the top of this page rather than buried under what follows.

Year Two Has No Number Attached

Inc Authority does not publish a renewal rate. Our July 2026 pass covered the front page, the package tiers, and the answers section, and a price for year two appears in none of the three. Across this industry the missing figure usually turns up in one of two places, a checkout screen or a phone call.

Inventing a believable amount would take one sentence and would hollow out this entire page, so the blank stays blank. The objection does not need a number to work. Montana will require an appointed agent every year your entity remains on the register, and the price attached to that requirement has not been shown to you.

Compare That to How This State Behaves

Montana publishes its prices in advance, in public, with expiry dates attached, which is a higher standard than most vendors hold themselves to.

The annual report has a standard fee of $20 attached to it. That fee is waived on punctual filings covering 2024 through 2027, so a report submitted by April 15 currently costs nothing. Filed after April 15, the same report costs $35. And on the state's fee schedule, in the column where an amount would sit beside a change of registered agent, Montana prints the words NO FEE.

Read that list again and notice what is unusual about it. The state told you not only what the discount is but which year it stops. You can budget four years out from a public document. A vendor selling into Montana can meet that standard or decline to, and for the number you will pay every year after the free one, Inc Authority has declined.

Who Is Allowed to Take the Seat

Worth knowing before any renewal conversation happens, because it shapes your options. Montana's agent law lives in Title 35, chapter 7 of the code, which is the Model Registered Agents Act adopted here, and it recognizes commercial agents carried on the Secretary of State's register alongside noncommercial ones, a category taking in individuals and companies that act as an entity's agent for service of process here. Both routes are open to you. What is not open is doing nothing, since an entity that stops maintaining an agent is heading toward administrative dissolution rather than toward savings.

That has a particular edge in Montana, where a large share of registered companies are owned by people who live in other states. When nobody connected to the business has a Montana address of their own, the agent is not one convenience among several. It is the company's only presence here.
