Montana Keeps a List of Agents. We Are on It for $99.

The company behind this page sells the thing it is recommending. Registered Agent MT.org takes $99 a year to serve as a Montana registered agent, and a Rocket Lawyer subscriber who moves the agent line here is worth exactly that to us. Rocket Lawyer's pricing is reproduced from what the company advertised during a July 2026 review.

One Price at Every Tier, Which Is Rarer Than It Sounds

The agent seat at Rocket Lawyer is priced at $125 for twelve months. That figure does not move whether you hold a membership, whichever one you hold, or none at all. We went looking for an introductory rate that expires later without finding one. Most of the surprises in this business live in the second year, so a vendor that names one figure and then honors it deserves a word of credit, and that is the word.

The Catch Is Structural, Not a Teaser

What you are buying at $125 is a slice of a legal platform. The subscription bundles form libraries, lawyer consultations, and a stack of business documents, and the agent seat rides inside all of that rather than beside it. For a business that genuinely uses the templates and books the calls, the package can pencil out perfectly well, and we would tell you so.

For a business that only needed somebody in Montana to sign for a summons, a portion of that $125 every year is rent on tools nobody in your company will ever open. That is not a criticism of the tools. It is an observation about what happens when a single line item is priced as part of a suite.

What the State Actually Asks For

Montana keeps a list, and understanding it clarifies what you are shopping for.

The state's agent law is the Model Registered Agents Act, and under Mont. Code Ann. § 35-7-106 a company that performs this work professionally files a listing statement with the Secretary of State and appears on the state's register of commercial registered agents. Being on that register is the qualification Montana cares about. We hold that listing.

Notice what the state never asks. It does not ask which legal software you have access to, whether your provider offers attorney consultations, or what subscription tier your business sits on. Montana wants a name, an in-state street address, somebody there during business hours, and documents that actually reach you. The statutory job is identical at $125 and at $99.

What the $99 Covers

• Service of process scanned and delivered to you the same business day it arrives at our office
• Every scan we have made for your entity, available in a portal at any hour
• Advance notice before the April 15 annual report deadline
• Non-legal mail scanning at $15 an item, flat, quoted on this page rather than on a later invoice
• $99 at renewal, permanently, with no upgrade path anybody will try to sell you

On price we hold a specific line and no more. We are not the least expensive registered agent in Montana. BetterLegal lists $90 a year, which is under us, and pretending otherwise would cost this page whatever credibility it has. Our $99 belongs to the low end of the Montana market rather than the bottom of it, and it does not move at renewal.

Take the Agent Line Off Rocket Lawyer, Keep Everything Else

A Montana filing edits one field on a public record. It closes no account and ends no subscription, and cancelling a subscription does nothing whatsoever to the record. An owner who genuinely uses the platform can relocate just the agent entry and hold on to everything else, which is a real option and one worth naming.

The document is the Statement of Change, a single filing that can move the registered office, the agent, or both in one pass. It carries no number, since Montana assigns numbers to nothing; every business filing in this state has been electronic since 2017. Submission is electronic only, through biz.sosmt.gov behind an ePass Montana sign-in, the Business Services Division receives it, and the state's published fee schedule carries no dollar amount against that line at all.

Three steps, and the order is the whole point.

1. Appoint the replacement. The statement asks for the incoming agent's name and Montana street address, and there is nowhere on it to record a vacancy. Montana wants a name in that field at every moment, which is why the new appointment happens before the filing and never after.
2. File the change. One entry moves the appointment across, so the record passes from the old name to the new one without ever showing neither.
3. Confirm on your entity record, then decide about the Rocket Lawyer membership on your own calendar. The state has no opinion about your subscriptions and never asks what you were paying before.
